Layli Miller-Muro was named by Newsweek as one of the top 150 Most Fearless Women in the World. She is the Founder and Executive Director of the Tahirih Justice Center.
A 22-year-old law student in 1996 at the time, Layli was assigned to a case involving a female fleeing the Western African nation of Togo to escape forced polygamy and female genital mutilation.
Layli lost the case initially, but then it went to the highest court in the land and at age 23, won the landmark case for recognizing for gender-based persecution as grounds for asylum seekers.
A remarkable, heroic story and interview with a woman who’s as educated as she is influential, and who’s organization is defending the rights and honor of women worldwide.
This is a game changer.
