Created by Jake on local access TV in Maine when he was just 15 years old, The Edge with Jake Sasseville
went on to debut nationally six years later on ABC after Jimmy Kimmel Live!
The show’s format evolved much as the host did over his formative years. At it’s national debut, Sasseville’s Edge was a show-within-a-late-night-talk-show, inter-cutting between guest interviews and comedy bits, and the real-life dramas behind the scenes of how he and his team tried to keep his fledgling show afloat. Celebrity interviews ranged from cast members for Saturday Night Live
and 30 Rock
, to more in-depth interviews with grammy nominated musician Wyclef Jean
and off-beat and awkward interactions with the cast of HBO’s Cathouse: The Series
As host, Jake thrived in situations where he had two or more
people in the same segment that didn’t necessarily belong together, and bringing the guest (and the audience) on a journey toward self-reflection and humor (or collision). Jake got the show on the air thanks to his hustle and a marketing campaign – “I want my Jake after Jimmy on ABC” – a campaign that drove his college audience to petition the Disney-owned network to let him on. Despite cease and decist requests from ABC, Sasseville pressed on and managed to become the youngest host ever in late night television broadcast history. The Edge with Jake Sasseville
was executive produced byJake Sasseville
, co-executive produced by Jeff Eisenberg
(ABC, WE) and Lauren Merrill
(Telepictures, Universal) and was directed by Pete McPartland Jr.
(MTV, Food Network).
